Drumroll, please! We’re proud to announce the two Bulgarian winners awarded for world’s best products in the categories Health & Environment and Media & News – Bee Smart and Imagga!

40 Winners from 24 countries, 24 Runner-ups, selected from 386 nominations. The UN-based World Summit Award (WSA) once more brings you a diameter of innovation from Indonesia to Argentina, from Iceland to New Zealand. See an app for cancer detection, robotics for first-graders and a political think tank. But not only that, the WSA Winners 2015 offer a vast spectrum of digital innovation.

And this year, for the first time, Bulgaria has two representatives at the Global Stage of the World Summit Awards! One of the champions is Bee Smart, a product “saving honeybees through technology”. Bee Smart offers beekeepers tools for monitoring and data processing in real time, allowing them to take timely measures in order to prevent threats against their hives and colonies. The technology collects and measures data on the temperature and the humidity in the hive, the weight of the hive, the location of the bee colonies, the best practices in the production of honey, etc., and notifies the beekeeper. Bee Smart is among the top five in the category Health & Environment.

Imagga is one of the winners in the Media & News category and provides technology for photo editing which detects and automatically places markers on images, which allows their easier analysis, annotation and use. The platform, as well as the generated metadata from the photos, serves the larger part of the photography-related ecosystem – photographers, stock photos websites and other commercial intermediaries, media and journalists, keen photographers, designers and advertisers, bloggers and many more.

Stages of WSA contestThe first round for the WSA contest was the National contest for Bulgaria, which was organized by the European Software Institute – Center Eastern Europe for the 8th consecutive year and performed by a National Jury of experts.  You can see this year’s Bulgarian nominations per category here.

Afterwards the international jury evaluated online and preselected 15 to 18 products in each of the eight categories. And finally the Grand Jury selected the five winners in each category.

Bee Smart and Imagga will be honoured with the World Summit Award in front of UN representatives, ICT ministries and the private sector in the Health & Environment and Media & News categories at the World Summit Global Congress in Shenzhen, China, in February 2016.

“To drive meaningful and relevant digital innovation, you have to connect people. With the WSA we recognize innovation of tomorrow already today. This year’s winners are an excellent selection of this momentum, matching local solutions to local needs. Shenzhen will offer the special stage to highlight these masters of innovation”, WSA Chairman Peter A. Bruck states.

The agenda of the WSA Global Congress will be a compilation of interaction and inspiration, assembling workshops, business blind-dates and infamous keynotes, bringing together UN and governmental representatives, privates sector and innovators.

On behalf of the National Jury we congratulate all 40 winners on their success and we thank all the nominees for their hard work on creating unique products with social impact – thank you for making the world a better place. We also expect a lot of photos from the ceremony and we surely can’t wait to see the crystal globes next to those of Street Dance School – the Centre from 2009 and SmartMuseum from 2010. And, of course, we’re hoping to see even more Bulgarian champions on the Global Stage, so to all creators of innovative mobile content with social impact – stay tuned for more information about the WSA mobile contest, 2016!
